GETTING TO LOMBOK

Everything You Need to Know Before Your Adventure Begins

Lombok is easier to reach than most people expect. Whether you’re flying in or arriving by sea from Bali, there are several convenient ways to get here. Below is a clear breakdown of the best options — including airport transfers, fast boats, and how to get around once you’re on the island.

Arriving BY AIR

Lombok International Airport (LOP)

This is the only operating airport on Lombok and its official name is Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, sometimes labeled as “Praya” or “Mataram” on tickets, but all refer to Lombok’s Airport.

Located in Central Lombok close to Praya, from the airport, it’s approximately:

  • 55 minutes to Mataram City

  • 25 minutes to Kuta (South Lombok)

  • 1 hour to Senggigi

  • 1.5 hours to the Gili Islands area (Bangsal Harbour)

The terminal has two sections (domestic and international), but share common arrival/departure areas. There are food outlets, ATMs, SIM cards, and souvenir shops — though no duty-free.

Airport tax is typically included in airline tickets

Arriving BY sea

FERRIES AND FAST BOATS

There are multiple fast boat services operating daily between Bali and Lombok via the Gili Islands. All fast boats are required to stop at Bangsal Harbour in North Lombok for port clearance, meaning travellers can easily reach mainland Lombok using any service heading to the Gilis.

Eka Jaya operates the only direct fast ferry between Bali (Padang Bai Harbour) and Senggigi in West Lombok aboard the Eka Jaya Matra — a modern, comfortable vessel licensed for up to 260 passengers. Ferries arrive and depart from Senggigi Jetty, right in the heart of Senggigi Beach. www.ekajyafastferry.com

Gili Getaway offers several high-speed, comfortable services connecting Bali and mainland Lombok, including routes to Gili Gede in Southwest Lombok, departing from Serangan Harbour in South Bali. www.giligetaway.com

SLOW FERRY

Padang Bai Harbour in East Bali provides the main sea link to Lombok, with ferries arriving at Lembar Harbour on Lombok’s southwest coast — around one hour from both Senggigi and Kuta. Travellers can purchase tickets directly at the harbour ticket offices or arrange transfers and tickets through a reputable tour company.

Public ferries operate 24 hours a day, departing approximately every two hours. The crossing takes around 4–5 hours depending on sea conditions, though delays can occur when docking or departing.

The journey is slow but scenic, and it’s the most budget-friendly way to travel between Bali and Lombok. Fares are around Rp 65,000 per person, while bringing a motorcycle costs about Rp 180,000, and a small car around Rp 1,150,000.

Schedules change often: The timetable is operated by many ships (e.g., KMP Roditha, KMP Sindu Dwitama, etc.), and times may change daily depending on sea conditions and demand

Price Variability: Ticket prices vary slightly across sources. We suggest buying ferry tickets early at the harbour or via trusted platforms, especially during busy seasons.
